With hindsight in reflection – my tribute @50
Fellow country men and women, I am not here to bury our country but to be sincere with my conscience which we shall all be finally buried with in the fullest of time by posterity. The evil that men and women have done and continue to do, to our beloved Sierra Leone shall live after them from the iniquities in their generations yet unborn, and the good ones shall be interred with their bones. It is only the truth and unity shall set us free to the path of what we were once was as the envy; a prosperous nation and the ATHEN`S OF AFRICA being the beckon of hope and light for many African countries, their people and elites who have today risen to the challenges’ and experiences learning from our examples while we have run down our country, morally, politically, socially and spiritually. This is the heart and fact of the matter @50. We saw no other options or choice in opting for the path that lead to our present quagmires. As the saying goes; no need crying over spilt milk. As a nation we need in consonance acknowledge our deeds, mediocrity and complacency leading to our present state of affairs opting for a new start.
Our past is nothing to be proud of or write home about period. From what was given to us as a starter pack during independence in 1961, and to where we are today is abysmal and shameful, If we look and measure our actions with other countries we were even better, and started stronger than them within the same period. Where others are today and where we are also is nothing to be excited about but must be viewed and digested with circumspection in serious reflections. What in the course of our journey happened to the legacies of Wallace Johnson, Mallamah Thomas, Pademba, Sir Davidson Nicol, Sengbeh Pieh, Ella Koblo, Mamy Yoko even Bai Bureh, Sir Milton Margai to name few of the legacies and all those who secure for us the capital of human resource that we have completely neglected and forgotten so sooner not even inculcated in our curriculum and civic education programs for brevity? We have an independence that is filling with too many questions than answers to our present status of coming off age as a country, a nation, and as individuals. Rather than hiding it with cosmetics solutions and realities, we must face it head on and accept our failures in totality as a people and as a nation. Then we can start a new transformation from the crucibles of the past in the present for a brighter tomorrow.
