Welcome
to the Kacoke Madit (KM)'s website.
You will find information on Kacoke Madit's (KM) past and current activities,
news and updates on events and developments in Uganda. You can listen
'live' to Mega FM a northern Uganda based community radio station and
also share our collection of material and resources on conflict resolution
and peace building.
KM
is a non-partisan and non-profit making forum dedicated to working for
a resolution of the Northern Uganda conflict so as to achieve lasting
peace and reconciliation. The name 'Kacoke Madit' comes from the Acholi
language. It means 'the big meeting', having evolved from an initiative
by the Acholi community in the Diaspora in 1996 to raise awareness about
the conflict and to win international support for a resolution. KM's work
is supported by a network of individuals, and partner
groups and organisations, including community based organisations
and international NGOs who share in our vision of achieving lasting peace
and reconciliation by peaceful means. The Secretariat is based in London,
United Kingdom, with regional representation in mainland Europe, North
America, Southern Africa and Uganda.
KM
believes that sustainable peace and reconciliation in Uganda can most
effectively be achieved through the peaceful settlement of conflicts;
that military force cannot achieve this and will cause more suffering
for the civilian population, especially children, women and those who
are internally displaced. We are committed to working for a peaceful settlement
and welcome the support and collaboration of those who share this goal.
Currently our work includes peace advocacy, identifying and facilitation
opportunities for peace dialogue and supporting the peace building work
of Acholi traditional chiefs and religious leaders.
