KM 98: Regional Recommendations
The Acoli Community in the UNITED KINGDOM

We the recommend to KM98 the following:

1. The APG should play a central role in liaison with KM in coordinating the peaceful effort between the Government and the LRM/A and other parties that are involved.

2. There should be a review and feedback on the progress towards implementing the resolutions within three-months and appropriate action taken accordingly.

3. KM should facilitate a Peaceful Protest Action including International Day of Action for all Acholi worldwide.

4. The government must provide security for people in their own homes, rather than in the "protected villages". The government should appreciate that people in their homes, would direct their energies towards productive engagements and thereby promote peace.

5. KM should commission a fact-finding mission to gather evidence on the war and publicise the true issues about the war to the outside world.

6. There must be found a way to bring the collective will of the Acholi people to bear on persons who promote the war in Acholi and to stop them.

7. Material and financial contributions for KM to continue the effort for Acholi to reach out and lobby the world communities and International institutions and governments to support our case.

8. The promotion of education to Acholi children in order to overcome the educational deficiency, and to restore pride and dignity to our people.

9. The government of Uganda must provide more humanitarian assistance to Acholi.

10. The Government of Uganda should honestly declare the appalling state of suffering in Acholi as a "disaster" to enable the ICRC and other NGOs to mobilise substantial additional humanitarian resources for Acholi.

11. The next KM (KM99) should be held at home in Acholi.

12. Acholi people should recognise and accept the fact that the military struggle in Acholi land has been costly, futile, and therefore defeated.
