Recommendations from the Acholi community in Kampala, Jinja and Entebbe to KM98 "BEDO PINY" GULU, UGANDA (CONCLUSIONS) or RECOMMENDATIONS Following three days of deliberations in Gulu, The participants: (a) expressed profound thanks and gratitude to the United Nations Systems for the support given to the Religious Leaders Peace Initiative. (b) resolved to give full backing to the Religious Leaders in their effort to promote peace building, healing, rehabilitation, post-war reconstruction and development. The Religious leaders were mandated to continue to work hand in hand with the United Nations System and other organisations in the common quest for peace. (c) appealed to the UN System and the International Community at large to initiate short-term and Long term programmes for rehabilitation and reconstruction. This should be done in the conjunction with the Government of Uganda, the District Councils in Gulu and Kitgum, religious organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations and other social groups. (d) deplored the recent abduction of girls from Kalongo Senior Secondary School and the wanton killing of students of Kichwamba Technical Institute. They call for the immediate release of the abducted children. (e) urged the Government of Uganda to ensure that the 'National Cake' is fairly and equitably distributed. This should be manifested in the allocation of resources and distribution of government jobs etc. (f) called on the government to adhere to the spirit of constitutionalism and to ensure that the lives and property of all Ugandans are protected. They deplored the recent spate of illegal arrest of people from 'protected camps' and called for their immediate release. (g) urged the Religious leaders to work hand in hand with civic and opinion leaders and the Acholi in the Diaspora under the auspices of the KACOKE MADIT for the restoration of peace and stability in Acholiland.
